Hello Again

Hello lovelies. It has been quite some time since I last wrote on the blog. Life just kind of got a little hectic there for a minute, but now I’m back and I plan to write at least once a week!

There have been some adventures while I have been away. There was this one time Matt took me to an abandoned school. It was beautiful in the desolation. It definitely felt like we were in an apocalyptic world, and you bet your bottom dollar my head was on a swivel looking out for possible zombies!

But mostly, life has just been a series of experiences getting used to living on the island. I’ve been here almost 6 months now and it’s just now starting to feel somewhat normal. I can’t even believe it has been that long. I’ve had quite a few highs and lows. Those lows were really low, and I struggled for a bit there, hence my lack of blogging. I am doing a lot better though, so don’t y’all worry!

I’ve been able to have a small community of friends even during this time of COVID-19. I have my two island parents (Nadine and Tim) and they sometimes take care of me when I need it. They are always so inviting and allow me to do laundry. They have really helped me to feel at home here.

Home

I just got back from a work trip on the island of St. Thomas. Though it is known to be busy, I found it to be quite comfortable. I enjoyed the crazy hills and the ups and downs of the roads I had to travel. It was actually really fun and kind of relaxing to drive there. It didn’t even feel like my 30-minute commute was actually that long because you’re so distracted by making sure you don’t drive off a cliff!

I’m really glad I got to meet my other coworkers in that field office. Sometimes, it’s just nice to put a face to the voice or the name. My time spent on that island was not wasted, and I’m really glad I was able to help them in the ways that I did. Sometimes, that’s all you can really take away from something  – glad to be of help.

I recently had a breakup and realized that I want the absolute best for him, and if that’s us being apart, then that is what is best. He is an incredible individual and since we will still be friends, I can’t wait to see how he succeeds in this life, and how he will inspire those around him as he has inspired me. I’ll miss talking to him as often as I did, but I am thankful that he will still be in my life even if it’s in a limited capacity. I will love him as my friend from afar.

I’ve been going swimming, snorkeling, and diving more lately. I have enough video to make probably 10 videos, but I’ve started with just the one this week. I needed something to pick me up, and so when I made the video about the bicolor damselfish, I was really proud of what I had accomplished. My first video about the southern stingray and sand tilefish was cool, but this one just felt different. It felt better. I can’t wait to make more videos. I have had requests to keep it up, and so I will do just that! I’m going to create a schedule for my blog and for an educational video, and by golly I’m going to try my darndest to stick to that schedule! Video is below 🙂

So! I will try my best to produce a new blog and video every week either on Saturday or Sunday.

Here’s to trying to create and keep a routine!

Until next time,

Curby
