Whoa, buddy

Hey there. It’s been awhile. Let me catch you up.

I’ve started working out on a regular basis. I decided that I needed to create some exercise goals just to be working towards something and adding a little structure to my life. And possibly a little more happiness with my body and health!

I run three times a week and do a home workout program 2-3 days a week. I’ve done this for three weeks right now. I’m now on my fourth week. I like it because I am determined to make sure I don’t miss a day, and I feel good that I am keeping my goals. It’s been highly effective in giving me a reason to get up early in the morning. I’m not going to lie, I definitely do NOT feel like running most days. I’m on week four which means I went from one mile three times a week to one and a half miles three times a week.

After running selfie!

That extra half mile sucks. I don’t wanna!

But I’ve noticed that after I run, I do feel accomplished. Same with the at-home workout. I can say that I accomplished something that day. I also have found that I should not workout outside after 07:30 in the morning. It gets too hot and sticky. Save it for the early morning or about an hour before sunset. I also continue to walk, whether it’s after my run, or before my workout. I like the scenery. One day, when I was mapping out my run by walking the route I wanted to take, I found this incredible plot of land that was only long grass and it was absolutely beautiful. It was like that classic view of “the amber waves of grain” kind of deal where it’s sunny and tall grass. I took a few artistic shots of the area because there was some barbed wire on the other side of the fence, and it was perfect. I just appreciated the scene and I wanted to share it with others.

I’ve also found that walking in the evening, an hour before sunset, is quite lovely. Sunsets are beautiful and it just continues to add to my day. I went on a run and then walk one evening because I got up late and knew I needed to run (remember those goals?). I ended up getting back on my street when it was getting pitch black. But, with the little remaining light, I took a couple of evening photos that I liked. Can y’all tell that I like to take photos?

We also had an abandoned kitten in the office for a day. She is absolutely adorable, and my coworker ended up adopting her. I don’t remember what he named her, but she stole my heart. Most people know that I am not that fond of cats. One reason is because I’m slightly allergic and will have skin breakouts (this also happens with short-haired dogs and guinea pigs), and another reason is because I’ve met some really mean cats and they have basically traumatized me. But this kitten changed that. She was absolutely the sweetest, most adorable thing I’ve ever seen and if I was able to actually take care of any animals, I probably would have taken her. I’m glad someone in the office could, though!

Side note, my boss has hermit crabs as her office pit while the other coworkers both have awesome aquariums with beta fish, guppies, gobies, and some other types of fish. One day, maybe I’ll have an aquarium in my office!

Nah, I’ll probably end up killing the fish. Forget that, I’ll just appreciate the other tanks.

Now that I’ve gabbed for a little while, I’ve been doing some home improvements. Well, not home improvements, more like I’m learning how to do things like re-spool the weed eater, cut the grass at a lower level, transplant my avocado tree, lemon grass, and aloe, and I’m in the process of building my own bed frame!

Let’s talk about my bed frame that I’m making! I have to admit, dreaming about making my bed frame was much easier than when I actually had to make moves and decisions to make it. I admit that I was quite anxious to get this project started because if I messed up, that’s money that I would have wasted. But then I realized it will all be ok and that it will be a learning experience! If I want to make my furniture and my garden box and my tables, I’m going to have to get this first task out of the way! I remember heading into Home Depot and having an idea and a list of things that I would need to make my bed frame. I definitely had to get the mold killing paint primer because the Home Depot on the island basically has nothing but mildew-ridden wood.

After I found the items I needed in the store, I went out to the wood area and started rooting through all of the different pallets of wood. I spent a couple hours literally just trying to find wood that wasn’t all bent, and that could be easily washed of the mildew before sanding and painting it. That took quite a bit of time. But, once I found the pieces I needed, I checked out and proceeded to stuff everything in my car. This was a daunting task. I honestly didn’t think I could fit these wood pieces!

I fit all of the wood in my car and I now know that 10 ft is my max length of wood pieces to be able to close my trunk!  I was impressed with my little Toyota Yaris!

Once I got everything I needed, I headed to Nadine and Tim’s place because Tim offered to let me use his tools to cut the lengths that I would need. I’m extremely thankful about that because I don’t have the money to buy a bunch of tools. He got me set up and then let me take over and I just went to it! I was reminded of my time in the shop with my old job, building shelves. Good times! I’m glad I was comfortable with cutting wood.

I then set up what the bed frame would look like when put together. I was pretty darned proud of myself!

Now I just have to sand every piece and paint it with that mold killing primer paint and then I can get to setting it all together, drilling, and screwing everything in. Tim is going to put a notch in the bed posts so I can just lay the side supports in and I’ll bolt them in. I’m super excited to have this project done!! My new mattress is going to be super happy!

So, once I organize the landlord’s second house a little bit to actually move the mattress in there, I’m going to wrap it up with the plastic my mattress came in and put the mattress, box spring, and frame in the other house. Then I can finally breathe a little bit because my house feels so claustrophobic right now!

Next post I’ll have more about my bed frame (and my difficulties) and about more surprise animals! By the way, I named the two dogs that like to come near my house. The boy is Buxley and the girl is Bailey. I couldn’t help myself. They’ll never come to me when I call them, but I will most definitely be creating fake personas for them along with fake accents and then I’ll probably envision situations where they are talking to each other.

I might have too much time on my hands.

Cheerio!
